Job purpose

In Uganda, Rikolto is working towards ensuring that the rice sector in Uganda is more resilient, sustainable, and inclusive, providing a living income for producers and agribusiness entrepreneurs, including women and youth while increasing the availability of sustainably produced food products on the market. Rikolto Rice Programme in Uganda through its partners is looking at building evidence for Impact Cases on SRP rice production and climate-smart financial models.

The main specific interventions include:

  • creating awareness and providing Training to rice value chain actors on SRP standards through pilots established by Community-based Trainers within the Farmer Organizations for all smallholder farmers

  • Professionalizing farmer organization and building business management capacities of FOs through business linkages with private companies in the rice value chain as well as promoting consumption of Sustainably produced rice ;

  • Bring all actors together to established shared vision for sourcing landscape management and share evidences to influence sourcing & lending policies and championing multistakeholder platforms for promotion of production and consumption of sustainably produced rice in Uganda. Rikolto therefore seeks to recruit two interns who will support the implementation of Uganda Rice Program.

Location

The position holder will be based in Bunambutye in Bulambuli and Itek OKile in Lira districts.

Duration

6 months with the possibility of an extension.

Roles

In collaboration with Uganda Rice Program Agribusiness Advisor, the intern will

  • Support FOs in collecting data and sharing interpreted data

  • Support partners in mobilizing communities for training and setting up demonstrations on SRP practices in the FOs in Eastern and Northern Uganda.

  • Work with FOs to establish records at FO and farmer levels as a measure to support the SRP Internal Control System

  • Support in taking attendance and other services during field days and other activities at FO level and during multistakeholder Platform meetings.

  • Take part in any other activities as may be assigned by the Agribusiness Advisor at Rikolto office or within FOs.

Qualifications

Hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field (Agriculture, Agri-business, Environment, and Natural Resource Management) obtained from a recognized institution between 2021 and 2022.

Below 35 years

Language

High level of fluency in speaking and writing English and the area local language of Lumasaba for Bunambutye and Langi for Itek OKile.
