In Uganda, Rikolto is working towards ensuring that the rice sector in Uganda is more resilient, sustainable, and inclusive, providing a living income for producers and agribusiness entrepreneurs, including women and youth while increasing the availability of sustainably produced food products on the market. Rikolto Rice Programme in Uganda through its partners is looking at building evidence for Impact Cases on SRP rice production and climate-smart financial models.
The main specific interventions include:
creating awareness and providing Training to rice value chain actors on SRP standards through pilots established by Community-based Trainers within the Farmer Organizations for all smallholder farmers
Professionalizing farmer organization and building business management capacities of FOs through business linkages with private companies in the rice value chain as well as promoting consumption of Sustainably produced rice ;
Bring all actors together to established shared vision for sourcing landscape management and share evidences to influence sourcing & lending policies and championing multistakeholder platforms for promotion of production and consumption of sustainably produced rice in Uganda. Rikolto therefore seeks to recruit two interns who will support the implementation of Uganda Rice Program.
