The intern will support the senior Agribusiness Advisor to perform the following activities
Training and coaching farmer organizations (FOs) from Iringa and Mbeya regions on the Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) Standard;
Training extension workers from all over the country on SRP;
Building the capacity of food system entrepreneurs to develop BDS, including SRP Assurance, Internal Control System (ICS) and financial services;
Generating convincing evidence on the profitability of SRP rice production for rice farmers to influence more farmers to adopt the use of the standard;
Assessing and coaching farmer organizations (FOs) on business and management;
Brokering long-term contract farming agreements between FOs and rice buying companies;
Generating convincing evidence on the profitability of SRP verified rice processing and retailing and sharing with other companies to influence their sourcing policies;
Facilitating processors with retail outlets to design effective communication strategies that promote production and consumption of sustainable;
Facilitating youth entrepreneurs to deliver innovative services in the rice value chain;
Linking youth in incubation programmes;
Establishing a national SRP Chapter in Tanzania;
Preparing policy proposals based on evidence from the SRP and climate-smart lending model pilots to influence rice-related policies of government and lending policies of financial institutions respectively;
Engaging with financial institutions to convince them to include sustainable or climate financing requirements into their loan terms.
